Blue Springs Adventure

On a recent trip to Blue Springs, I noticed a few travel trailers and RV'ers coming to check out the water and play with their big toys (kayaks and 4-wheelers). It got me thinking about how many other Springs we have here in Florida and what a neat adventure it would be to visit them all.

Blue Springs is a designated Manatee Refuge and winter home to the West Indian Manatees. The spring and the spring run is closed during manatee season, which runs from November through March, and no swimming or diving is allowed at that time. Here's a way to view the world of the manatee Manatee TV

The water was pretty cold and I'd be lying if I didn't try to convince my kids that I really didn't need to go in. The Springs are full of ccooollllldddd water, or as most people call it, "refreshing", but once you're in and swimming around, the water is perfect.

The park entrance fee was $6 and we brought our lunch, so we were able to keep our costs down. There is a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs, rent their water tubes or kayaks and buy snacks.

You can spend the day swimming or you can snorkel scuba dive into the caves of the spring. I'm not brave enough to go that deep, but if that's something you enjoy, you'll find Blue Springs a neat little spot to go exploring.

One of the highlights of the day was watching the manatees swimming around the cave opening and then back down to their area of the springs. They don't bother anyone and as big as they are, it's hard to believe they are right there below you.
